EKU Anti-Spam Solution Printer Friendly

EKU’s new anti-spam solution is located at antispam.eku.edu  for those unfamiliar with spam, it is unsolicited commercial e-mail that frequently clogs e-mail systems and wastes the recipient’s time.

The EKU antispam initial login screen requires that you login using your EKU e-key.  Your e-key is the username and password you use for logging into EKU email or Blackboard.  Faculty and Staff e-keys are a combination of last name and first initial (example: doej).  Student e-keys are a combination of first name, last name, and may contain a number at the end (example: john_doe12). If you are unable to determine your e-key, contact the Help Desk at 2-3000.

When you log in the first time, you can personalize the aggressiveness level of your spam filtering on your “My Filter” page. Since all messages flagged as spam are stored in your personal trap, you can feel comfortable setting a fairly high level. You will be able to check all pending messages caught in your spam trap and verify that the ones you need are delivered to your mailbox.

To set the filtering aggressiveness, select a radio button and click on Enable Spam Scanning. You may change your filtering level at any time by selecting a different level and clicking on Apply.

Filter Levels vary from lenient to strict. The middle level is the one recommended by the software. Try the middle level and adjust as needed to match your spam received. Before you select any level, the default spam trapping is more lenient than any level you can select other than opting out.

If you do not wish to use this spam scanning software, simply click on the Disable Spam Scanning button. If you later decide to re-enable scanning, return to this page at any time and select Enable Spam Scanning.

Your spam trap will continue collecting messages as long as you have any filtering enabled. After 30 days with no action taken on a message, it will be marked as spam. When you first begin using the antispam software, you will need to check your trap fairly frequently to locate any incorrectly trapped messages. It is generally quickest to first select messages you wish to keep (by clicking on the green check) and clicking on the Submit Changes button. Afterwards, when you only have unwanted messages remaining, click on the Reject All button.

If you wish to be notified concerning messages in your spam trap, select the Preferences option on the blue bar, then the Notification option in the gray bar. Select the time(s) you wish to be notified and click on Submit Changes. You will receive an e-mail concerning the contents of your spam trap. To change the delivery time(s) simply return to this page to make any changes.
